This Demijohn is absolutely fantastic! Circa 1830 - 1875. Its shape is more an American shape and it has the mark of a stamp in the front and 2 steams as it was handblown in moulds. The glass has some stria like a wave. Its neck has a hand applied ring circling (not all complete, a small piece is missing). All its imperfections make it beautiful!

“Demijohn” is an old word that formerly referred to any glass vessel with a large body and small neck, enclosed in wickerwork. In France, Demijohn is called “Dame Jeanne”, literally “Lady Jane”.
